Passenger and agri tyre sales down in H1 in European replacement mkt

The replacement tyres segment had a mixed response in the first six months of 2019,  according to the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA).

Passenger car tyre replacement sales continued to decrease in the second quarter, resulting in a total decline of almost 4% to 101 million units in the period of January-June 2019 as against around 105 million units in the same period of 2018.

Agricultural tyres sales declined more than 4% to 682, 000 units for the first half of the year as against 73,1000 units in the first half of 2018. Truck tyre replacement sales showed only a small increase after the very good results of the first quarter which helps to have a 5.4% growth in the first six month of 2019. In the H12019, Truck tyre replacement sales stood at 5.1 million units.  Motorcycle tyres also showed a small increase for the second quarter resulting in an overall positive and reported a 3.2% increase to 6.1 million units in H12019.

Fazilet Cinaralp, Secretary General of ETRMA, said “The tyre market provides a good picture of the general economic situation. The low passenger car tyre replacement sales mirror new car registrations in the European Union, which also declined in this first semester”.
