Myanmar becomes ANRPC member

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar has become a Member of Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC).

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) will represent the Government of Myanmar in ANRPC. On behalf of the government, Dr. Ye Tint Tun, Director-General, Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, signed the Instrument of Accession. Earlier, the Myanmar Parliament, in its regular session held on 7 August 2018 had approved the proposal by the Ministry.

ANRPC is an inter governmental organization established in 1970 for multilateral cooperation among the countries producing natural rubber. India has been a member of ANRPC since 1975.With the accession of Myanmar, ANRPC now has 13 members representing 90.5% of the world output of natural rubber. Myanmar produced 242000 tonnes of natural rubber during the year ended June 2018 from 311000 hectares of yielding rubber. Of the four auto tyre manufacturing companies in Myanmar, three are state owned. The country annually exports about 150000 tonnes of rubber.

This year the 41st session of the ANRPC Assembly, 48th Executive Committee and the 11th Annual Rubber Conference will be hosted by the government of Thailand at Chiang Rai in North Thailand, from 8 to 13 October 2018. Apart from the 13 Member Governments, a few non member countries also will attend the events as Observers. The Annual Rubber Conference, with the theme “Adapting for the Emerging Megatrends”, will be held on October 8.
