Bridgestone India launches Ecopia brand in India

Tapping the growing demand for eco-friendly tyres, Bridgestone India, the Indian entity of Bridgestone Group, launched two fuel efficient passenger car tyres, Ecopia EP150 and Ecopia EP850, from its Ecopia range for aftermarket in India.Launch of Bridgestone Ecopia tyres in New Delhi

Though the company has launched the two variants of Ecopia brands for replacement market currently, it is in talks with OEMs for supply.

The Ecopia tyres are available in 26 sizes initially, ranging from 13″ to 18″ rim diameters, and is designed to fit many popular compact vehicles. Ecopia EP150 caters to small and mid-size sedans, while Ecopia EP850 caters to SUVs.

Ecopia EP150 and Ecopia EP850 provide7% and 10% better fuel efficiency respectively against conventional tyres, said the company. “With this brand Ecopia, we represent our eco-activities to prevent global warming. The key features of Ecopia tyres are low resistance, which leads to low carbon emission and boosts comfortable ride and safety” said Shinichi Hanashi, Chief Executive Officer of Bridgestone Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.

Around millions of tyres were sold under the Ecopia brand by April this year since it was launched five years ago in Asia Pacific region. The Ecopia tyres have been supplied to major car manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai.

The Ecopia tyres are available in 26 sizes initially, ranging from 13″ to 18″ rim diametres, and is designed to fit many popular compact vehicles. Ecopia EP150 will available 17 sizes, while Ecopia EP850 in nine sizes. “After this launch, out of 17 sizes, three sizes of Ecopia EP150 are available in the market, while the remaining sizes will be launched next year. While six size of Ecopia EP850 will be available in the market from the launch, while the rest next year,” said VaibhavSaraf, Sr General Manager-PSR Sales and Marketing , Bridgestone India.

EcopiaEP150 will be manufactured from the company’s Khed plant, while the Chakan plant will roll out Ecopia EP850 and cater to only domestic market. The company has no plans to exports Ecopia tyres manufactured from the Indian plants.

The company intends to introduce the Ecopia brand for commercial vehicles next year. “We are planning to launch the Ecopia brand for TBR by the mid of the next year,” added Saraf.

Bridgestone India also plans to enter into two-wheeler and three-wheeler markets segment. “ We are planning to enter into two and three-wheeler market in India but have not decided yet on this. Right now we are monitoring the market for the two-wheeler and three-wheeler segment,” said Saraf.

Bridgestone India will also be aggressive on retail business. The company plans to have around 500 family channel stores by early next year from the current level of 400 outlets. The company will also aggressively marketing tools to market the new launched products and educate consumers.
