Around 20K participates at Reifen 2014

Reifen at Messe Essen has confirmed its international profile in an impressive way: On May 27 – 30, 2014, around 20,000 visitors from 130 countries came to the premier global fair in the tyre sector.

Over 64 percent travelled from abroad, that corresponded to an increase of twelve percent in comparison with the preceding event. With 670 exhibitors from 44 nations, more companies than ever before also presented themselves at Reifen this year.

The world’s leading representatives of the sector (including the 20 largest tyre manufacturers) showed everything to do with wheels and tyres, e.g. new tyres, wheels, chassis technology and equipment. Reifen 2014 was able to boost the positive mood in the sector even further: For the current year, a lot of companies are expecting sales increases throughout.

On the first day of the fair, representatives of Messe Essen and Messe Frankfurt announced that they will enter into a far-reaching strategic partnership with regard to their premier global fairs Reifen and Automechanika in the future. Messe Essen and Messe Frankfurt want to exploit synergetic effects in sales and marketing across borders. After Reifen 2016, they will therefore interlink their two premier global fairs closely with each other.

Together with Rubber Tech Europe which took place in parallel, this year’s Reifen portrayed the complete value added chain of the tyre for the first time and as the only event anywhere in the world: from the preliminary stage of production via manufacture and trading right up to retreading and recycling. This supplement was praised by many visitors.

On the occasion of the premiere of Rubber Tech Europe in Hall 6 at Reifen, 53 exhibitors presented their available ranges for the preliminary stage of tyre production, e.g. rubber machines, rubber chemicals and rubber raw materials as well as the corresponding technology.

In 2014, Reifen once again confirmed its reputation as the fair of the manufacturers and the decision takers. Around 90 percent of the exhibitors originated from the producing sector. The proportion of the decision takers with purchasing and procurement powers amongst the visitors was just as high. The overwhelming majority of the visitors came from tyre trading and tyre service. Around two third travelled from abroad: The top nations of origin were Italy, France, Poland, Belgium and Great Britain. With around 44 percent, the main item of interest at Reifen once again related to tyres, casings and tubes. More than one third of the visitors placed orders at the fair and the exhibitors showed that they were very satisfied with the business transactions.

Focus of Attention

Tyre Pressure Checking Systems – For More Safety and for the Environment

This year, the range on offer and the supporting programme focused on tyre pressure checking systems (TPCSs). These systems monitor the tyre pressure of motor vehicles and warn the driver in the event of a drop in pressure. On May 29, Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkaniseur-Handwerk (BRV – “Federal Association of the Tyre Trade and the Vulcanisers’ Skilled Trade”) staged an expert conference on the subject. BRV is the ideal sponsor of Reifen and, in this function, assists Messe Essen with specialist recommendations.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony for its premier global fair in the evening before the first day of the fair, Messe Essen greeted one leading candidate for the European elections in 2014: With a keynote speech entitled “More Grip for Europe”, Jean-Claude Juncker gave the starting signal for Reifen. Thereafter, the Innovation Awards were handed over to the manufacturers of the most pioneering new products. The tyre manufacturer Yokohama won in the “Technology and Products” category. The German manufacturer of alloy wheels Borbet prevailed in the “Environmental and Resource Conservation” category. The Italian firm Cemb was the winner in the “Service Concepts / Process Optimisation” category. Moreover, the prize in the “Motor Vehicle Service” category which was offered for the first time went to Counteract Balancing Beads.

Preparations for Reifen 2016 and Reifen 2018 Are in Full Swing

Even now, the preparations for Reifen 2016 and Reifen 2018 at Messe Essen are already in full swing. For the coming edition on May 24 – 27, 2016, the doers for Reifen have already allocated a large proportion of the exhibition area. Furthermore, an absolutely special anniversary will be on the agenda in 2018: Then, the 30th edition of the premier global fair Reifen will take place at Messe Essen. On this occasion, Messe Essen will plan a big birthday party with a lot of surprises for its exhibitors from all over the world. According to a representative survey conducted by Gelszus Institut für Messe-Marktforschung (“Gelszus Institute for Market Research About Fairs”), around two thirds of the exhibitors would already register for Reifen 2018 too.

Jens-Peter Mayer, Business Management, ASE Corghi S.p.A., HPA Branch

“We have been an exhibitor from the outset. Reifen in Essen has a very high status for us as the world’s largest machine manufacturer for garage equipment. This year, we were able to establish a very good visitor quality. Our new axle-measuring hoisting platform was particularly popular. In 2016, we will certainly be involved once again.”

Ralf Hoffmann, Marketing and Pricing Manager for the Car and Light Truck Tyre Replacement Business in D-A-CH, Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH

“All in all, we are very satisfied with the course of this year’s Reifen at Messe Essen. Especially the first two days were intensive and characterised by numerous discussions. This year, tyre pressure checking systems were one of our main focal points on the booth. On this subject, we have presented an efficient portfolio together with our automotive brand VDO. The high number of international trade visitors was noteworthy. The quality of the visitors was also outstanding. Thus, we were able to close a lot of business transactions. Even now, we already know that we will come once again in 2016.”

Francisco Ibarzabal, Commercial Manager, Galgo

“Our company is an exhibitor at Reifen because we can intensify existing contacts and establish very promising new contacts here. We use the fair in order to nurture our image and have introduced many innovations here. On our booth, we were able to greet guests from the whole world. It is important that the visitors to Reifen are those whom we want to have.”

Maureen Voortman, Marketing Manager, Heuver Tyrewholesale

“We have not missed a single Reifen since 1992. Our core markets are located in Germany, Austria and Benelux – there, a brand appearance at the premier global fair in Essen is obligatory. In 2014, we have used Reifen in order to introduce our innovations: including our newcomer in the segment for agricultural tyres LingLong as well as our optimised customer support by national teams. We are very satisfied with the volume and interest of the visitors: Our booth was well-filled almost without exception. Conclusion: In 2016, we will definitely be at Reifen once again.”

Harjeev Kandhari, Infinity Tyres Europe, Great Britain

“Essen is the ultimate meeting place for the Tyre Industry. We have been exhibiting there for 10 years and attending for even more. We, as an industry, are very fortunate to have a well organised and marketed show that allows us to meet our contemporaries in the industry.”

Philip Müller, Head of Sales for the Aftermarket, Ronal AG

“It was the first time that we have participated in Reifen at Messe Essen and the premiere was successful. Our measurement has indicated that around 60 percent of the visitors to our booth came from outside Germany. The fair has allowed us to make outstanding international contacts. We had quite a lot of new products in the aluminium field on the booth as well as, for example, our ‘Carbon Revolution CR-9’ model. This is the first one-part carbon wheel anywhere in the world. In addition to our Automotive division, we have also presented our truck tyre brand with ‘Speedline Truck’. Reifen at Messe Essen is a ‘must’ for us – I have strong expectations that we will be involved once again in 2016.”

Wes Sprunk, Tire Service Equipment / Saf-Tee Siping & Grooving, USA

“For us, Reifen in Essen is the most important fair anywhere in the world where we can present ourselves to an international public. We are very satisfied with the number and quality of the visitors. We were able to meet many of our regular customers, to establish new business contacts and to close good transactions. In 2016, we will definitely be an exhibitor once again.”

Dirk G. H. Reurslag, Sales Director for Industrial Solutions & Services,

VMI Holland BV

“Reifen is the fair for the sector. Anybody who, like us, is active in the manufacturing and retreading of tyres must be involved in Essen. VMI Holland has therefore been an exhibitor at Reifen from the beginning and will doubtlessly be represented once again in 2016 as well: then, probably with an even larger brand appearance. In Essen, we are increasingly reaching the top management of our customers from Asia. Therefore, it is becoming ever more important for us to be present at Reifen.”

“From May 27 to May 30, 720 exhibitors from 44 countries presented their products at the REIFEN and the Rubber Tech Europe under one roof in Essen and thus reflected the entire spectrum of the value chain in tire building.

Analogous to our participation in this event in 2012, we had the opportunity to make new contacts, especially to business partners from the Far East, but in addition we were also able to strengthen existing contacts and continue and intensify discussions. We welcome the development of the combination of REIFEN and RUBBER TECH under one roof in Europe.

The resulting effect of a stronger representation of international mechanical and plant engineering makes the event increasingly significant to us. Furthermore, events like this reflect the developments in the international markets, which naturally is of great interest to us. We hope the event will even grow in popularity in 2016.

Shortly our customers can meet us at the ITEC, Ohio, USA (November 9 – November 11, 2014) and at the Rubber Tech in Shanghai, CHINA (December 3 – December 5, 2014) “
