Sulphur dusting in rubber plantations not harmful: Rubber Board

Sulphur dusting is the control measure for powdery mildew disease of rubber, which is predominantly noticed on newly formed tender leaves during the refoliation period.

This practice is recommended by the Rubber Board and will not cause any environmental hazard. Powdery mildew is common among rubber trees which lead to severe crop loss, if not controlled properly. Dusting of Sulphur should be carried out in early morning hours when leaves are moist and the atmosphere is calm.  Sulphur is not harmful for human beings, animals and environment and is used in some medicines as well.

Rubber Research Institute of India conveys that there is no need for any concern regarding the usage of Sulphur.
