Michelin to continue as Formula E’s tyre supplier till 2021
Michelin will remain as Formula E’s tyre supplier till 2021. The French tyre manufacturer has inked a signed a new multi-year agreement in this regard. Michelin has been supplying tyres to the Formula E field since its inaugural season in 2014-15.
Formula E, officially the FIA Formula E Championship, is an auto racing which uses only electric-powered cars. The series was conceived in 2012, and the inaugural championship started in Beijing on September 13, 2014.
The tyre manufacturer is already working on tyres for the new-look next-generation car, which will debut in season five of Formula E.
“Michelin is delighted to continue its collaboration with Formula E beyond season five, until 2021. Today, after only three seasons, Formula E has become a platform of innovation and communication chosen by the most important brands of the world. The contribution of Formula E to the evolution of the automobile is obvious and Michelin wants to move forward with the FIA, Formula E founder and CEO Alejandro Agag and his teams, as well as with all manufacturers, on the path of sustainable mobility. After having developed innovations such as the first high energy efficient 18-inch competition tyres for single-seaters, Michelin will continue its research and technology transfer work during the coming seasons,” said Michelin Motorsport Director Pascal Couasnon.
