Audi’s new R8 is for race tracks
Audi chose the New York Auto Show to present its race car R8 LMS GT4. The car takes almost 90 per cent of its parts from Audi’s popular R8 series, but the model has undergone a smooth spin to get into the racing mode. The engine is 5.2 litre V10 with a power of 495 hp to tune in with the new power regulations. The regular V10 is 602 hp (Photo courtesy: http://johndagys.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com).
The new Audi R8 LMS GT4 fills the gap between the RS 3 LMS and the Audi R8 LMS for GT3 racing, which represents the pinnacle of the Audi Sport customer racing programme, the company says.
The other R8 features include seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, mid-engine design, total lightweight construction with Audi Space Frame (ASF), permanent quattro four wheel drive, carbon fiber-reinforced ceramic brake discs, and R8 performance steering wheel with multifunction plus and performance mode, according to the company website.
The other new model, Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus, features many details that convey its lightweight construction and technical precision, Audi says. An innovative combination of materials and Audi ultra efficiency technologies make the Audi Space Frame (ASF) bodywork incredibly light with high torsional rigidity – setting new benchmarks across the board. Signature design features such as side blades, air vents, and the striking shoulder line emphasize the motorsport roots of the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus.
