Bridgestone named to Dow Jones Sustainability World and Asia Pacific Indices

Bridgestone Corporation has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the first time and the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index for the seventh consecutive year.

These indices, maintained collaboratively by S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM, measure the performance of the world’s sustainability leaders based on a comprehensive analysis of long-term economic, environmental and social criteria.

Environmental Approach

Bridgestone achieved the highest score in the Auto Components industry sector in the environmental dimension and the maximum score of 100 in two environmental assessment criteria: climate strategy and environmental reporting.

The Bridgestone Group (the Group), which includes Bridgestone and its consolidated subsidiaries, has set a long-term environmental vision for the year 2050 and beyond. This vision aims to strike a Group-wide balance between business operations and environmental protection. With this goal in mind, the Group has set medium-term CO2 reduction targets for 2020 and has been steadily make strides in reducing the CO2 emissions from the company’s total operations and its products’ after-use, as well as by helping improve customers’ fuel efficiency.

Furthermore, in 2016, the Group bolstered its information disclosure practices by publishing a Global Sustainability Report to clearly convey its approach and activities intended to support a sustainable environment and society for its stakeholders.

Economic Approach

Bridgestone obtained the highest score in its industry sector for innovation management criteria.

The Group has been undertaking a number of sustainable innovation initiatives such as development of the next-generation fuel-efficient tire technology “ologic” and piloting solution-based businesses to maximize the value it offers customers.
