Bridgestone India launches Firestone tyres for replacement mkt in India
After entering into the two-wheeler tyre segment in India recently, Bridgestone India today launched America’s legendary tyre brand Firestone in Mumbai to cater to passenger car and SUV segments in the country for the aftermarket.
The company does not have any plan to supply the new launched tyres to OEMs as of now.
With the launch, the Japanese tyre maker target to capture a 20% passenger car market share in the country in next five years.
Firestone FR500, the passenger car tyre and Firestone Destination LE02 for SUV segment, will be available at Bridgestone India’s 3,000 retails points.
Both the new tyres will be rolled out from the company’s Chakan and Kheda plants.
However, the company declined to share the initial production volume of the tyres. The prices of these tyres will be around 10% lesser than Bridgestone tyres.
The FR500, built specially for Indian condition, are available in 24 sizes that will range from 12 rim diameters to 16 rim diameters, and the LE02 will be introduced with 3 sizes with 15 rim diameters and 16 rim diameters, making it suitable for different models in the SUV segment in India, said the company.
Bridgestone India also plans to launch 11 new sizes for SUVs under the Destination A/T range in 2018.
“With the two new Firestone tyres, we will target consumers who look for value for money, while Bridgestone will keep focusing on the premium segment,” said Vaibhav Saraf, senior GM (Consumer Products), Bridgestone India.
The company will brand the Firestone products in two phases. “In the first phase, we tell people that we are back in India and in the second phase, we will endorse what Firestone stands for,” added Saraf.
Currently, Bridgestone India’s passenger car tyres has a production capacity of 25,000 tyre per day. However, the company did not share the utilisation rate of the factories.
Speaking at the launch, Kazuhiko Mimura, Managing Director, Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Over the last few years India has emerged as a global economic powerhouse and also one of the fastest growing automotive markets in the world. Firestone at the onset we will focus on the passenger car and SUV car segments and subsequently expand the size range. We hope to garner our fair share of the market through a pan India network of dealerships and superior quality and service.”
