China takes on US tyre import duty ruling
China has taken up the issue of import duty on its tyres by the US government. Beijing’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) has demanded reconsideration of the US ruling on imported tyres of passenger vehicles and trucks from China. The ministry alleged that the US Commerce Department was following discriminatory and unfair practices.
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) dismissed the objective fact that the US tyre industry is in sound condition and made the affirmative determination to impose punitive duties, the MOC said in a statement on its website.
The ITC voted on July 14 to affirm the Commerce Department’s earlier determination of material injury to the US tyre manufacturing industry, putting the anti-dumping and countervailing duties set in June by Commerce into effect.
The Chinese MOC has urged the US to strictly comply with international trade rules, prudently use trade remedy measures and adopt responsible attitudes and actions to correct its wrong practices and protect economic relations.
