POWER OF GERMAN TYRE TRADE

Peter Hülzer, Executive Chairman, BRV (German Federal Association of Tyre Trade and Vulcanisation Craftsmanship), talks to Polymers & Tyre Asia
What are the aims of the BRV?
The BRV is the German Federal Association of Tyre Trade and Vulcanisation Craftsmanship. Founded in 1986, the association represents today more than 1,800 tyre dealers with a total of 4,000 outlets. This means that the BRV is the agent for nearly 80 per cent of the German tyre trade. So as you can well imagine, the BRV is a real power in the German tyre market! Our main target is of course, to support the tyre trade. To achieve this, we inform, advise and mediate permanently between business, government and consumers.
In the past couple of years, the business has become increasingly more difficult. Several relatively mild winter in Germany, altered mobility concepts, but also the fact, that the young generation no longer considers cars as a status symbol, but as a mere means of transport. All this had an impact on the German tyre trade. One further aim of the BRV is therefore to make the tyre business fit for the future challenges. For this reason we have published recently two prognoses (“future studies”) for car and truck tyre retail business and have organized several workshops in the past year.
A very important project to give the tyre trade fresh impetus and make it fit for the future is a new international tyre trade fair in Cologne, named “The Tire Cologne” (www.thetire-cologne.com), starting for the first time on May 29 – June 1, 2018.
